More information

The Galician cockles are a very appreciated molluscs for its sea flavour and it is also a shellfish that gives us a lot of protein and just carbohydrates. The best way to taste this shellfish is steamed because in this way we will keep all its properties.

We recommend to keep the cockles in the same mesh in which we acquired them as they are tightly packed together, preventing them from opening and thus retain all the sea flavor they have

In case you need cockles of another size, just get in contact with us and we will take care of everything

Galician cockle and nutrition: not only tasty, but healthy

Galician cockles, fish and seafood in the daily diet are essential for a balanced diet. You can include cockles in many recipes, hot or cold dishes, but remember that the nutritional contribution of Galician cockles varies according to the ingredients of the chosen recipe and the size of the portions

With the variables of how you cook it in mind, it can be stated that Galician cockles are a very low calorie content food (100 grams of cockles provide only 1 gram of fat).

They are suitable foods to cover the nutritional deficiencies common in slimming diets. Seafood in general stands out for its low fat, ease of digestion and nutritional qualities. Galician cockles also provide quality protein and essential amino acids.

Contribution of vitamins and minerals for the diet

The mineral content of cockle is remarkable: cockle meat provides more iron than beef. The cockle serves to prevent iron deficiency anaemia (caused by iron deficiency), and replenish the mineral spent by those who practice sports to an intense degree.

A surprising comparison: the iron contained in 100 grams of cockles, clams or clams is approximately 24 Mg. Except for blood, no other food comes close to the levels of cockles: lentils, 7.1 Mg, liver, 8 Mg, spinach, 4 Mg, for example.

The Galician cockle also provides vitamin B12, which prevents another type of anemia: pernicious anemia. B12 is an essential vitamin for brain and nervous system functions, and for the synthesis of haemoglobin.

B12

In different amounts, they also provide Vitamins A, E, B1, B2, B3, B6 and B9. In addition to iron, cockles are rich in other minerals, such as calcium, zinc, iodine, potassium and magnesium.
