Poli Grappa di Sassicaia, made from fresh pomace of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and distilled with discontinuous copper stills with steam boilers. This brandy, after maturing for 4 years in oak barrels, has undergone aging in barrels that have previously contained the well-known Supertuscan wine Sassicaia for a period of 6 months. Marketed in an elegant package, it is a 50 cl bottle. Availability is average, as it is available in various wine bars, both physical and online.
In the same series belong the high liqueur in Port barrels, Rhum, Torcolato, Sherry PX and Sauternes, in addition to Poli Barriques and the two Amorosa Amorosa of September and December.
Tasting note:Appearance: Pale yellow colorNose: It opens with a delicate and fresh floral aroma composed of wildflowers, daisies, and freshly cut grass. Then a toasted dried fruit note appears, but mainly almonds. There is also a hint of toasted walnut that announces the entry of licorice and coffee. In the background, an elegant combination of "soft" and non-invasive vanilla in wood. Very intriguing.Palate: Marked vinous scent, due to the aging in fact Sassicaia barrels present cherry liqueur accompanying it, then toasted almonds and a delicate woody aroma. Medium-bodied, not particularly complex, but still well-structured and combined.Finish: Medium with the return of wood and vinous notes, but also and above all toasted dried fruits. A hint of coffee closes the whole. This Grappa di Sassicaia is an interesting experiment: an elegant and well-structured grappa, with good personality and characteristics. However, I would have preferred a more robust body and a slightly longer finish. I recommend it in combination with a Christmas cake, especially panettone.
