Bombay Sapphire creates a gin inspired by the sunset, Bombay Sapphire Sunset.
Bombay Sapphire's master botanist, Ivano Tonutti, draws inspiration from locations around the world for the botanicals used in the range. The new gin is inspired by the "gentle warmth and orange glow of the setting sun."
Natasha Curtin, global vice president of Bombay Sapphire, has stated: "As the global gin boom continues to thrive, we remain dedicated to championing creativity and craftsmanship in our products. The Special Editions are unique and contemporary expressions of Bombay Sapphire gin, each one inspired by the natural world from which we source our exquisite botanicals."
Bottled at a higher alcohol content of 43% or more, Bombay Sapphire Sunset is considered the "ideal gin for cocktail creativity," allowing drinkers to enjoy it for "late afternoon aperitif occasions" and nighttime consumption. Sunset is made with the 10 core botanical ingredients of Bombay Sapphire, as well as golden turmeric, Indian white cardamom, and Spanish mandarin.
Tonutti said: "I have worked closely with our master distiller, Dr. Anne Brock, to create a subtle combination of warm spices and citrus notes that truly enhance the complex flavor profile of Bombay Sapphire gin, providing a lingering warmth and refreshing taste. Bombay Sapphire Sunset balances the spices of cardamom and turmeric with the bittersweet sun-dried Spanish mandarin, bringing aromatic spices and warmth, like those last rays of sun at the end of the day."
The gin is said to have "warmth and depth" from the addition of cardamom, while the mandarin brings a "sweet" note. It is suggested to serve the expression with tonic and garnish it with an orange wheel to emphasize the "warm spicy" character of the bottling.
