Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieux Piedlong is a red wine produced by Domaine du Vieux in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in the Southern Rhône, with 90% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre grapes.
It comes from vineyards with an average age of 70 years, located on a stony plateau called Piedlong for the Grenache and in the heart of the AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape, specifically in the Lieu-dit Pignan to the east of Piedlong for the Mourvèdre.
The harvest is done manually, with light crushing and selective destemming. The traditional fermentation takes place for a minimum of 30 days in concrete and wooden tanks, under strict temperature control. The aging period extends between 20 and 22 months in 60-hectoliter French oak barrels. The wine is bottled without clarification or filtration, thus preserving its authentic character.
