Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a red wine made by Domaine du Vieux in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in the Southern Rhône, from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes.
Stemming from vines that average 70 years of age and are rooted on a stony plateau in the Crau, in the south-east of its appellation, this wine benefits from a unique terroir. The vines, surrounded by a thick layer of clay and pebbles, give character and depth to the grapes.
Meticulous manual harvesting ensures the selection of the best clusters, followed by light crushing and selective destemming. In the winemaking process, a traditional fermentation process is chosen that lasts between 30 to 40 days in stainless steel tanks and wood, carefully controlled in temperature to extract the best of each variety.
The ageing, fundamental in the evolution of this wine, is carried out for 20 to 22 months in 60-hectolitre French oak barrels, where the wine acquires complexity and structure, while retaining its innate elegance. Subsequently, it is bottled without fining or filtering, thus maintaining all its authenticity and character. Its evolution in bottle promises to achieve exquisite balance and harmony over time. The initial tasting reveals a profusion of very ripe red fruits, bordering on strawberry jam, more direct and evident than in the Grand Vin. On the palate, it exhibits a balance between vivacity and velvet, where the light sweetness characteristic of the Grenache comes through perfectly, without detracting from the wine's lightness. It has length without being overly complex, with a touch of pepper but also roundness.
