The adjective "Taggiasche" refers to a well-known locality on the west coast of Liguria - Taggia - the first place where this famous quality of olives arrived, brought by monks from the island-monastery of Lerino, in front of Cannes. The cultivation of these olives then spread throughout the area that is now in the province of Imperia, on the side known as the "ponente" of the Mediterranean region.

It is a very appreciated and versatile variety of olives. They are small but very tasty and are therefore used to cook many dishes of the exquisite "ligure" gastronomy. They are also excellent eaten alone, as an aperitif or accompanied, for example, by a glass of very cool white wine.

These olives are also used to produce an excellent extra virgin olive oil, very low in acidity, which has earned the DOP (Protected Designation of Origin) qualification.
