Located in southwestern Mexico, Chiapas is the region bordering Guatemala. It was Guatemalan before 1824. Its highly contrasting relief includes coastal areas, valleys, tropical forests, and mountains, including the Sierra Madre, offering high altitude and excellent quality volcanic soils.
This coffee gets its name "Altura" from its altitude. It is grown at an elevation of nearly 1300m, resulting in superior quality beans.

Layac is first and foremost a family adventure led with passion by Céline and Julien. It was during a trip to Mexico that they discovered coffee roasted over a wood fire. A true gustatory love at first sight for them, which pushed them a few years later to create their own wood fire roasting workshop in Vitrac, near Sarlat in the Dordogne region.
Layac exclusively roasts specialty beans, organic or from sustainable agriculture. The wood used for roasting is local and certified from sustainably managed forests. Layac is also committed and donates a portion of its profits to a foundation that supports research and innovation to make everyday life easier for people with motor disabilities.
