Tasting notes
Medium intensity with bright cherry color
Intense, deep, complex nose. Aromas of red fruit combined with fine notes of oak aging: spices, coffee, vanilla.
Balanced and elegant on the palate, very personal. Maintains good freshness. Finish: Prolonged, deep, pleasant.
Persistent in the mouth, tasty and pleasant.
Serving temperature: 16-18º C
Geology and Soil
Tempranillo from selected vineyards in various areas of Elciego (Rioja Alavesa).
The soils are clay-limestone, poor in organic matter.
The climate is continental Mediterranean, with a marked Atlantic influence. After a dry cycle and high summer temperatures, the prolonged 2016 harvest benefited from favorable weather to obtain a quality harvest, rated as Very Good by the Regulatory Council.
Pairing
At Made in Spain Gourmet, we recommend it with all types of meats, especially grilled beef and roast suckling pig. It is ideal with one of the most typical Riojan specialties: grilled lamb chops with vine shoot embers. Meat and blue fish stews. In general, saucy recipes with intense aromas. Aged sheep and goat cheeses, and preferably Iberian cold cuts.
Elaboration
Harvest: Mostly mechanized harvest, from mid-September to mid-October. Fermentation: 20 days in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature.
24 months in barrel plus another 12 in bottle. Half of the barrels are French oak, the other half American oak. 30% of the barrels are new.
