When it comes to buying the most important varieties are:
- Persian orange is currently the most commonly cultivated variety in southern Europe since the 11th century and is the orange that Christopher Columbus brought to Haiti and the Caribbean in 1493
- N navel orange or "navel" (California orange)The product of a mutation that occurred in 1820 in a monastery in Brazil, from which others have been derived, such as the navelina, a hybrid with an easy-to-peel rind, and the navelate or late navel.
- Valencian orange (Valencia late, or Valencia tardía), is one of the sweet varieties for juice. It is the one that predominates in the markets after the navel season. This variety, despite its denomination, has no relation of origin with Valencia
- Blood orange (sanguine)
The blood orange has red stripes on the skin, and the juice is often a dark reddish color

Citrus fruits, it is advisable to take in the morning, orange juice if taken on an empty stomach, eliminates toxic substances and prevents us against many diseases
However, oranges are part of a large number of preparations and traditional recipes in Spain and other countries
Best time: The orange season is from January to May. This is when you can get oranges in Spain at a very reasonable price. There is a difference between juice oranges (cheaper in season, rich in juice) and table oranges (aesthetically larger and more beautiful). Storage: Fresh oranges can last more than three weeks in the refrigerator, although if stored at room temperature more juice can be extracted
