The Standish Lamella is a red wine made from Syrah by the Standish Wine Company winery in Eden Valley, Australia.
Tended by the sixth and seventh generation of the Angas family, the old vines are grown on granite soil east of the eponymous town of Angaston. The higher elevation allows for cooler nights that better preserve the natural acidity that gives these grapes their lively appeal.
Dan Standish (who was Torbreck's winemaker until 1999) produces four different wines, each from a specific vineyard representing a different part and style of the Barossa Valley. The entire Standish range exemplifies Dan's enormous passion for the reserved style of Rhône Valley Shiraz. His wines mimic this classic region.
The Standish Lamella Tasting Notes
Dense, floral, bergamot, liquorice and chocolate, black fruit and dried raspberry, spice and peppermint (low). Full-bodied, dark and perfumed, distinctive raspberry coulis flavour, earthy and bold, somewhat ferrous too, rich tea-like tannin, luxurious and stony/earthy feel and persistence, a fresh and 'mineral' sensation to the acidity.
