Viña de Martin Escolma is a white wine made by Luis Anxo Rodríguez, from the Ribeiro D.O., with Treixadura, Albariño, Lado, and Torrontés.
Luis Anxo Rodríguez created a small family tradition winery in Paixón, Arnoia municipality, in 1988. It has 2.7 hectares of vineyards spread across 29 plots.
Their most limited wines, Escolma red and white, come from old plots and a deep selection during harvest that concludes with long aging in barrel and bottle.
These wines are only produced in exceptional vintages and are released to the market when Luis considers they are ready. Viña De Martin Escolma is made with treixadura, albariño, torrontés, and lado, from the oldest vines of the winery, with a yield of less than 1kg per vine, planted on slopes with sandy-siliceous soils. The harvest is manual. Each variety undergoes fermentation separately with native yeasts in French oak barrels of different sizes. The aging is 12 months in new French oak barrels. The wine is refined in bottle for a minimum of 3 years before being released to the market.
