Wine from the beginning

A mild and rainy winter followed by a spring with frequent precipitation. That's how 2010 started, a year characterized in its first half by moderate temperatures. It wasn't until the end of July that the heat of a particularly dry summer was felt. In those conditions, we decided to delay the harvest. A decision that time proved to be correct. The rain arrived in mid-September allowing our grapes to complete their ripening and offer a harvest of enormous quality. All this conferred this Initio 2017 wine with a manual harvest in boxes and subsequent selection on the table.

Features of wine Initio 2017

Winemaking: The grapes, selected by plots, enter tanks and undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration for a week. Subsequently, fermentation begins naturally with the yeast from the grape itself, without corrections or additives, for three weeks. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels and foudres. It is bottled unfiltered and unfined.

Tasting notes of wine Initio 2017: A clean and bright wine Initio 2010. High layer cherry red color with garnet hues. On the nose, the varietal garnacha is presented with great complexity. Aromas of blackberry jam, plums, orange blossom, licorice, cocoa, with a wide variety of wild aromatic plants and a mineral background. On the palate, it is lively, elegant, ample and structured, with a prolonged and deep persistence that makes it very personal. Perfect to accompany all kinds of meats, stews, Iberian products, cheeses, red tuna, rice dishes and pasta.

Las Moradas is located at almost 900 m above sea level, on the threshold of the Sierra de Gredos, in a unique location in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, southwest of Madrid. Surrounding it are 21 ha. of old Garnacha vineyards settled on a fine gravel soil of granitic origin, with low grape yields and in a harsh climate. A mountain vineyard, with a special landscape value protected by its richness in fauna and flora, we support environmental sustainability with organic agriculture. The wine obtained tries to capture the essence of garnacha in these terroirs in the most natural and respectful way possible.
