The renowned Japanese oak wood, Mizunara, has long been considered a challenging material to work with. In the 1940s, the Suntory House blending team began experiments with Mizunara wood, under the supervision of first generation master blender Shinjiro Torii and second generation master blender Keizo Saji. The first tasting revealed a liquid from the Mizunara barrel with a dominant flavour and aroma.
